Understanding the Motivations of Members of Indonesian Travel Bloggers in Writing Travel Experiences
Travel industry is one of the important sectors in any country in as much as it can help develop the economy and increase the revenue. to improve the service in tourism and increase the number of consumers, travel industry has used social media as a marketing tool. Travel industry needs social media to provide consumers with information and knowledge. the most efficient platform in social media for sharing information on traveling is blogging. Blogging is a good tool for sharing because it is free and so simple that everyone can make his/her own blog. Blogger, the person who has a blog, posts his/her photos, articles, videos that are sometimes given comments from readers. the aim of this study is to understand the motivations of travel bloggers in writing their travel stories and travel experiences. This study uses in-depth interviews of seven travel bloggers Indonesia. the results have found that there are eight motivations in blogging: (1) Blogging as an information sharing platform (2) Blogging as a self-expression (3) Blogging as a documentation of experiences (4) Blogging as a learning tool (5) Blogging for network building and socializing (6) Blogging for expressing national and local pride (7) Blogging because of influences from others (8) Blogging to support careers.
