Sense of Belonging Amongst Third Culture Individuals and Their Motives in the Usage of Facebook
Third Culture Individuals (TCIs) are always moving from one country to another, the constant need to belong somewhere and fit in becomes an issue but now with technology today Facebook has enabled individuals to develop and maintain relationships from all corners of the globe, a perfect medium for TCIs to preserve and also cultivate relationships with familiar others in the countries they have lived in the past. the more families that migrate to Asia, the higher the increase of TCIs .This research aims to (a) Describe the current situation of TCIs in Indonesia , and aims to (b) Determine whether there are differences in Low and High sense of belonging amongst TCIs in the areas of motivation and Facebook activity. Quantitative data are gathered through online surveys by means of expat forums and Facebook. Results are derived from a total of 152 samples of TCIs that are currently living in Indonesia. the results indicated that TCIs with lower sense of belonging are more active on Facebook than TCIs with high sense of belonging.
