Developing and designing flow control and load control for existing microhydro powerplant
The goal of this thesis is to make a greener power system yet more reliable. This project was given by HYCOM to make an improvement in term of wasted energy and reliability of the system. The existing system is manually controlled. The manual flow control does not have any motor or power logic to monitor continuously 24 hours 7 days, therefore the quality of the power is not properly maintained. This manual system will be replaced by an automatic flow control system using motor to allow self-adjustment of the guide vane. Furthermore there will be a system called load shading in this automatic system to raise the effectiveness of the system by using frequency based closed-loop control. By employing this control system, the new micro-hydropower plant will have higher safety factor, with better reliability and more stable power quality.
