Modular speed control of 3-phase squirrel cage ac motor in SGU laboratory using Simatic S7-300
Motor speed control is important in the industrial field, and PLC (Programmable Logic Control) is becoming more popular in industrial automation. The thesis explains the usage of SIMATIC S7-300 PLC to control the speed of the 3-phase squirrel cage AC motor in an SGU laboratory. The motor is controlled both by an open-loop system configuration and a closed-loop system configuration. The motor speed is controlled by regulating the input voltage to the control unit PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) which controls the inverter. The signal from the incremental encoder is used as a feedback signal. PLC was programmed so it can give correct output voltage to the system.rn The experiment was carried out by giving set points to the PLC and the response of the motor was monitored using an oscilloscope. The results show that the system response had good stability when it was controlled using an open-loop configuration. The response of the system fluctuated caused by noise when was controlled using a closed-loop configuration. The result was better when the noise signal was reduced.
