Increase Profitability and Flexibility By Shortening a New Model Ramp-up Time (Learning Curve) - A Case Study at PT. Pratama Abadi Industri
Ramp up time (learning curve) is a challenge in introducing new model to production,for most of the shoe factory; it takes around 8 to 10 days. The short ramp-up time can be a competitive advantage for the company. The purpose of the research is to shorten the ramp-up time at PT. Pratama Abadi Industri to 5 days even less in the near future. Observation, data gathering and literatures survey are the methodology used for the research. The finding is ramp-up time is depend on the learning rate of the process, model and operators. These learning rates are influence by experience, skill and proportion between human (skill) and machine or automation. In order to improve the ramp-up time or learning curve, PT. Pratama Abadi Industri have to improve the operator skills especially in Stitching department which is have the most longest ramp-up time compare with other departments and also the preparation in launching the new model should be improved. Multi skills training program and new procedure of introduction a new model is set up to reduce a new model ramp-up times.
