What Lies Beneath a Financial Statement: A Means to Study a Company's Performance & Financial Health
The primary purpose of this thesis is to help gain better understanding of what the financial statement is trying to depict about a company's performance and to determine its financial health by applying relevant financial analysis tools. The proposed study methodology will be of descriptive research nature where it involves data analysis and the interpretation of findings. Financial accounting theory will be applied in this case to analyze the published financial reports of the nominated company including the materials obtained via the internet. Then the interpretation of the findings, with the help of Microsoft Excel application program, will go through series of the Common-size statement analysis, DuPont system and related financial ratios techniques and complemented with viewpoints analysis. Finally, the conclusion on the company's performance and the resulting health will be provided based on the observation gained through the interpretation of those findings.
