Implementing a web service atomic transaction (ws-at) protocol to demonstrate distributed transaction over the web environment
Distributed computing is growing and requiring much more attention for its maturity. Some vendors have been collaborating to provide mutually agreed specifications to enable communications among different platforms in distributed systems. One of the results is Web Services Atomic Transaction (WS-AT) specification which specifies how web services which perform distributed transactions can maintain its atomic (all or nothing) property.rnrnThe objective of this research is to demonstrate the distributed transactions in a loosely coupled environment through web services. This is achieved by implementing the WS-AT protocol to coordinate the transaction processes in each web services. The web services to support transactions are designed and implemented in .NET technology using Windows Communication Foundation. rnrnThe application built on this thesis has been implemented and successfully tested to conform to WS-AT protocol. After analyzing the result, the research shows that distributed transaction could be performed over web environment using web service technology and WS-AT protocol to maintain its atomicity property.
