Determination of bruise development in guava fruits during road transportation
Bruise development in guava fruits (in this case, red guava ) during road transportation may occur due to a variety of reasons. Major causes is due to the collision of the fruits with one another or collision between the fruits and the packaging. The packaging often used for the transportation of guava fruits is corrugated fiberboard or wooden box with cushioning materials or dividers acting as the fruits protection. The other reasons are due to the postharvest rough and improper handling, such as placing and stacking overfilled container when loaded into the truck. These conditions greatly contributes to damaged product during road transportation. The study was conducted in two steps; the first step is to determine the bruise development in guava fruits after vibrated for two and three hours using a vibration table.rn The second step, products after being vibrated with the vibrating table is then observed for mechanical injury, weight loss and also a decrease in flesh firmness. The purpose of this research is to determine bruise development and evaluate the quality deterioration of guava fruits after transport simulation.
