Comparative study of commercial optical - based whitening for hyperpigmentation treatment
Hyperpigmentation is a condition to be treated with expensive procedure. This research evaluates the possibility of optical-based whitening cream for hyperpigmentation treatment. Product screening of three products with optical whitening agent were performed. Product A, B, and C were tested on volunteers with hyperpigmentation problems. The application frequency was varied from once a day either in the morning or evening, and twice a day. Each product was observed using photograph and skin tone ruler. Quantitative measurements were done using chromameter and mexameter. All three products proved to lower the hyperpigmentation visually. Product B with twice a day application exhibited the best result. Visual observation showed that 85% of panelists were able to distinguish the change in hyperpigmentation color. Melanin content decreased by 75%, and skin lightness increased by 55%. Results showed that application during night time does not provide a different result with day application. This research proved the potential of using optical-based whitening cream for hyperpigmentation treatment.
