Introduction of ancient Javanese manuscript: study case of serat centhini

Indonesian?s misunderstanding of Serat Centhini as kamasutra and to be considered as deviation of Islam Tasawuf, cause negligence of further conservation. Several attempts have been done to introduce Serat Centhini, one of them is through theatrical art performance, which combines the reading of the repertoire (tembang) and traditional dances.rnThis thesis will analyze some approaches to introduce Serat Centhini and involvement of major stakeholders; the art practitioners, government and sponsoring establishment. While the audience, includes Ustad is put as feedback of Islamic perspective. This thesis is qualitative with analytical and explanatory approaches. The purposes are to explore the adaptation of Serat Centhini into modern era, find the limitations and elements to be exposed in art performances. The sources of data are primary andrnsecondary data. The primary data is gathered through face to face interview with the experts in their own field, and secondary data is gathered through existing sources. As the results, this thesis discovers that art performance is the best way to introduce Serat Centhini and the limitation of Serat Centhini to be introduced in present era actually isrnthe content, the kamasutra and to be considered as deviation of Islam Tasawuf.
